Parkinson's & SPEAK OUT
Parkinson's often makes the voice quieter and speech less clear. SPEAK OUT is a structured programme that helps build and keep a stronger voice.
How Parkinson’s affects speech
Many people with Parkinson’s speak more quietly than they realise, with less clarity, less pitch variation and sometimes a faster or mumbled delivery. It can make being heard and understood tiring and frustrating, and it often responds well to speech therapy.
The SPEAK OUT! programme
- An individual course of sessions (typically around 12 over a few weeks) with a SPEAK OUT!-trained speech pathologist
- The focus is on speaking with intent — deliberate, effortful voice — using speech, voice and cognitive exercises
- Then you move into LOUD Crowd, an ongoing weekly maintenance group, to keep the gains
Getting started
A referral from your GP or neurologist is helpful but not essential to book privately. We assess your current speech and voice, confirm the programme is a good fit, and plan around your energy and medication timing. Sessions can be in clinic or by telehealth.
Common Questions
Still not sure? Call the clinic on 0493 719 759 and we'll talk it through.
Is SPEAK OUT the same as LSVT LOUD?
They are related, evidence-based programmes with a shared origin and a similar “think loud, speak with intent” principle, delivered differently. We offer SPEAK OUT! and LOUD Crowd.
Will I need to keep doing exercises afterwards?
Yes — Parkinson’s is progressive, so ongoing practice and the LOUD Crowd group are what keep the improvements. Most people find the group motivating and social.
